Clay Org Chart Builder

Builds an interactive org chart for one target company from Clay's people search, showing inferred reporting lines and a review tray for anyone with no manager evidence.

About this Skill

When to use it

Use this Skill when someone asks you to map the leadership of a specific account, such as building an exec-team chart, showing who reports to whom, or flagging which leaders are new in their role. It returns a self-contained org chart page with labeled, editable reporting lines and a tray for people it cannot place. Avoid using it for finding one person's email, building prospect lists across many companies, scoring an account list, or writing to a CRM or sequence.

What it delivers

You get one interactive org chart page that groups C-Suite and VP leaders into function lanes, plus a by-level view and a Needs review tray for anyone with no evidence of a manager. The page labels every reporting line as inferred with a confidence level, and you can drag tiles to correct lines yourself; it never states a line as confirmed fact.

Inputs & outputs

What someone provides before the Skill runs, and the reviewable artifacts it returns.

Inputs

  • 01Target account
    • Company name or website domain to build the chart for
    • confirmed against Clay's company records before any people search runs
  • 02Branding choice
    • Choose yes or no to style the page in your own brand
    • if yes, supply your company website so its colors, fonts and logo can be read
  • 03Build settings
    • How many leader records to pull on the first build (default 30, capped at 50)
    • how far back the news section should search (default 3 months)
  • 04Workspace and lookup setup
    • Confirm which Clay workspace runs the search
    • pick a function from your workspace for mobile-number lookups, or skip it for email lookup only
  • 05the requested amount
    • re-run the Step 5 query with a limit of current total plus the requested amount, and deduping drops
    • the people already charted. Default to 20 more if no number is given, and say it uses Clay credits
    • before running it.

Outputs

  • 01Build summary replyA short written summary of leaders found, exclusions, workspace searched, and how many people still need review, so you know the chart is ready and what it left out.
  • 02Leadership coverage summaryA quick count strip showing how many leaders, VP versus C-Suite, contacts found, people needing review, and lines you've manually set.
  • 03Org chart tilesThe visual chart itself, with each leader's title, function lane, and reporting line plus the reason and confidence behind that line, ready for you to review or drag into place.
  • 04Recent news cardsDated, linked news items naming the charted leaders, so you can see what's currently happening with the team before reaching out.

Representative output

Reply after a first build

Built the Northwind Robotics org chart from Clay (workspace: Acme GTM): 25 leaders — 7 C-Suite, 18 VP. Left out 5: 2 field CTO titles, 1 former employee, 1 executive assistant, 1 non-VP title. 10 people are in Needs review because Clay's data has no same-function leader for them, and 1 line is low confidence. The news section has 6 items from the last 3 months, naming 4 leaders. Reporting lines are inferred from titles, not supplied by Clay. First build size 30 and news window 3 months are the defaults.

How the Skill runs

Follow the steps in order. Each row includes the full instruction.

01
Check Clay connection and tools

Confirms the Clay search tools and workspace connection work, names which workspace it will search, and stops if anything required is missing.

Step
02
Ask which company

Asks you to name the target company or, better, its website domain if you haven't already, and waits for your answer.

Step
03
Confirm spend and branding

Explains how many leaders it will search for and that the search uses credits, asks whether to apply your brand, and the run stops and waits for your answer before any search happens.

Step
04
Extract seller's brand

Reads your company website's colors, fonts, and logo to style the chart, only when you chose branding, and falls back to the default look if the site can't be read.

Step
05
Resolve the target company

Matches the name or domain to one Clay company record, and the run stops and waits for you to pick when several plausible companies match.

Step
06
Search current leaders

Searches Clay for current C-Suite and VP leaders at the resolved company and checks your workspace for a function that can look up mobile numbers.

Agent
07
Classify leaders and infer lines

Filters out non-qualifying titles, groups remaining leaders by level and function, and infers each reporting line from title seniority with a stated confidence.

Step
08
Find recent leader news

Searches the web for recent, dated news mentioning the charted leaders and keeps only verified, linked items inside your chosen news window.

Agent
09
Build and deliver the page

Renders the interactive chart, publishes it privately when possible, and replies with counts, exclusions, and a reminder that titles come from Clay while reporting lines are inferences, not confirmed facts.

Step
10
Add more people later

Pulls additional leaders into an existing chart, merges them with prior data, refreshes the news section, and republishes to the same page link.
